About us:
LA Indie Shorts is an international film festival with live events and annual screenings at the Los Angeles Performing Arts Conservatory. The festival is devoted to the promotion and screening of international and American shorts of all genres from both emerging and established names in the film industry.
The LA Indie Shorts celebrates the efforts and accomplishments of true indie artists. The festival is a true independent festival in every sense, aiming to inspire, motivate and award the true innovative and artistic geniuses of our time and create exposure and publicity for independent filmmakers. Hopefully the showcase platform we provide will help facilitate that dream. We’re excited to display a wide range of works from all genres that will have industry pros, filmmakers and filmgoers buzzing. We are committed to the cinematic language, the art of filmmaking and short cinema. All films in the beginning of cinema were very short, sometimes running only a minute or less. It was not until the 1910s when films started to get longer than about ten minutes. The first set of films were presented in 1894 and it was through Thomas Edison's device called a kinetoscope. It was made for individual viewing only. Comedy short films were produced in large numbers compared to lengthy features such as D. W. Griffith's 1915 The Birth of a Nation.[citation needed] By the 1920s, a ticket purchased a varied program including a feature and several supporting works from categories such as second feature, short comedy, 4–10 minute cartoon, travelogue, and newsreel. Short films have a rich history in the world of cinema. They have served as a platform for experimentation and innovation, allowing filmmakers to explore new ideas and techniques in a condensed format. The evolution of short films mirrors the evolution of the film industry itself, from the early days of silent films to the present day where short films continue to make a significant impact.
LA Indie Shorts provides a valuable opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their work to a diverse audience. The festival not only celebrates the art of short cinema but also recognizes the hard work and dedication of independent filmmakers who often operate outside the traditional studio system. By highlighting the creativity and talent of indie artists, LA Indie Shorts plays a crucial role in promoting diversity and originality in the film industry.
